On the ground floor of 121 West George Street, Sarti’s pizza and pasta are hard to beat.
If you’re visiting Glasgow for a special occasion and seafood is your thing, we can recommend Gamba (further ‘up the
hill’ on West George Street) and Rogano, 5 minutes away just off Buchanan Street.
For more casual dining, other nearby restaurants include: Wagamama (Asian Fusion - West George St), Amarone
(Italian – Nelson Mandela Pl),La Tasca (Tapas – Renfield St), Charcoals (Indian – Renfield St), China Sea (Chinese –
Renfield St), Urban (St. Vincent Pl), Butterfly & Pig (Bath St). Meat eaters will enjoy Viva Brazil Churrascaria and Grill
on the Corner (both on Bothwell St).
If you like real ales, we can recommend the Drum and Monkey, one block away on the corner of Renfield St and St.
Vincent St. Even if you don’t, it’s a nice bar with a good atmosphere though can get crowded at the weekend.
Another very famous pub nearby is The Horseshoe Bar on Drury Street. If there’s a big football match on the
Horseshoe is a great place to watch ... if you can find space to squeeze in. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but
The Horseshoe is renowned for its Karaoke (in the upstairs lounge). However, this isn’t Karaoke as you know it ....
these people can sing! And if they can’t the audience usually start booing the hapless Beyoncé or George Michael
wannabe’s. PS - Go early – it’s full by 20.00.
If you like a drop if the “usquebaugh” or “water of life”, then you should head for The Pot Still on Hope Street.
They have literally hundreds of different whiskies from which to choose. Slàinte mhath !
Other tried and tested local hostelries include: The Lab (Springfield Lane / Buchanan St), The Corinthian (Ingram St).
For the younger set, any of the basement bars on Bath St can be recommended (Bunker, Bloc, Moskito, St Judes).
One block to the east of the apartment on West Nile St. is Vroni’s Wine Bar. Not the cheapest in the area (!) but very
good selection of wines.
If you prefer more mainstream, on the opposite corner from Vroni’s is All Bar One (St. Vincent St).
The Merchant City
A 10 minute walk from the apartment, every other establishment in the Merchant City is either a restaurant, club or bar.
