This is a FITwatch Call-out.

This is a FITwatch Call-out.

This is a call-out to all those who have ever been on the recieving end of “intelligence-led” policing.

This is a call-out to all those who have been pushed up against a wall by riot cops and illegally stop-and-searched.

This is a call-out to all those who have had the contents of their wallets emptied and their details collected whilst being forced to pose for a photo by the FIT team.

This is a call-out to all those who have been profiled or arrested for “breach of the peace” for having the ‘wrong’ clothes, the ‘wrong’ flags, the ‘wrong’ political beliefs or the ‘wrong’ colour skin.

This is a call-out to anyone outraged by recent political policing wanting to act in solidarity with those affected.

This is a call-out to RESIST these blatant attempts to harrass, intimidate and bully us into a state of obedience and compliance with an increasingly authoritarian surveillance state.

This is a WAKE-UP CALL to all those who want to be successful in whatever cause they are taking action for: we cannot let them smother our newfound collective strength. We’ve seen this happen before. We didn’t act against repressive policing and our movements were broken. This time it must be different. We must not let it happen again.

DONT LET THEM GET THAT PHOTO: You can block them from taking your own photo without risk of arrest: you are not legally obliged to co-operate with overt surveillance. A large group of people can block FIT cameras with banners and placards with low risk of arrest. Remember, if they think their prescence may lead to disorder, they are likely to withdraw. The more of you that protest their prescence, the less chance any individual has of getting nicked.

DONT LET THEM WALK THROUGH OUR PROTESTS: Link arms, fight back and show we won’t let FIT roam free through our protests.

DONT LET THEM SNATCH YOUR MATES: Stay on your feet, watch out for snatch squads and stay tight – link arms or de-arrest if they move in for the kill.

DONT LET THEM CONTAIN YOU: Watch out for kettles and cordons.

DONT LET THEM GO UN-NOTICED: Familiarise yourself with the individual members of the FIT team and publicly identify them. If possible, record their presence. Twitter it or facebook it. It’s all of our responsibility to make sure the FIT can’t hide in the shadows.  Click HERE for FITwatch ‘Spotter Cards’

DO MASK UP AND WEAR BLACK: Masking up and wearing black are not necessarily about black bloc tactics but about promoting anonymity and keeping people off police databases.

DO REMEMBER: Intelligence gathering doesn’t end with the FIT team. All cops on demonstrations will feed your personal data back into a database which will be analysed.

DO REMEMBER: The Police have no power to demand your name and address or force you to pose for a photo when stopping and/or searching you.

DO REMEMBER: The Police have no power to demand your name and address when arrested for Breach of the Peace. IT IS A PREVENTATIVE DETENTION AND NOT A CRIMINAL OFFENCE. Click HERE for more information.

DO LEARN YOUR RIGHTS ON ARREST: Knowledge is power. Click HERE for a useful guide to arrest.

DO CONTACT activist legal groups and report abuses and political policing. Click HERE, HERE and HERE for such groups.

DO SEND US information, photos, names of cops and any other relevant information.

DO STAY STRONG and remember solidarity is one of our most powerful weapons.

…See you on the streets!

    1. Well said. Always remember the legal advice you read on the FITwatch website will be relevant only to England & Wales, unless explicitly stated otherwise. Thanks for pulling this up.

  1. This is just what is needed. I have been deeply concerned with what I have seen at the latest protests. The cops are trying to intimidate people in to not attending demo’s. I saw the cops ripping facemasks off people in a violent manner and arresting them for no other reason than being on a demo. We need to educate ourselves so we know precisely what they can and cannot do and stand firm in the face of this oppression. Solidarity is needed. Good luck to all those uncutters at court tomorrow.

  2. What was seen on J30 was deterrent policing – making it a criminal offence to wear dark clothes, or to be young, militant or black. This was scare tactics, with the intention of frightening people who may want to associate with a black block.

The crucial thing is how people react now. If we back off, scared, that will justify this sort of policing. If we stand defiant, they will have nowhere to go.

  3. Actually, not a good idea to ‘mask-up’ as under section 60 police have to power to remove masks, balaclavas etc

  4. the problem here is that the police are reverting to the old BOP laws.If they fear that a breach of the peace may take place then they seem to be able to do what they like to prevent a demo happening

  5. @OTTO

the police only have the power to remove face coverings if it is not seasonally appropriate. So come winter, they will not win in court if they were to arrest you with not complying.

secondly, FUCK IT. wear the mask – the worse they can do is make you take it off. They might not even get that close! STAY MOBILE.

And – s.60 has to be put in place by an inspector in a deisgnated area at a designated time. It is not a power the police can use all the time.
